From something else

Several months ago I was in Old City (checking out Paradigm Gallery at 4th & Fitzwater) and came across a huge pile of narrow plastic sheets, which had been dividers between musical artists in an old CD store that was apparently out of business. I impulsively shoved about 50 of them into my bag, thinking "I'll probably use these later."

A couple weeks ago I pulled one out to mix paint on for a sketch. Afterwards I couldn't help seeing a creature within the colorful blobs, and after it dried I sketched in the lines. I've made a couple more and might keep going.

I like the idea of these weirdly beautiful creatures coming from something else, coming from leftovers of the creation process of another thing. These ideas are working their way into my next show...
