ABOUT THE ARTIST
Joey is originally from Bethlehem, PA, where she was born and raised as a Quaker, growing up and into the radical (/logical) concepts of Peace, Integrity, Simplicity, Equality, and Community.
Her art is influenced by love, anger, breath, and planet in the context of her education in and out of academic institutions.
She believes in successful vegan cookies, the power of laughter, and dinosaurs.
Joey splits her time between Philadelphia, PA, and New Orleans, LA, and sometimes other places like Rochester, NY, New York City, and the rest of the world.
She is currently in Washington, DC as Friend in Washington for the Friends Committee on National Legislation.
IS US AND WE ART A COLLECTIVE?
Maybe someday it will be. Right now it's just the name I chose for my work.
WHY IS IT "US AND WE ART"?
Apart from the fact that "joeyhartmanndow.com" is too long and clunky, early in my artistic journey I realized my work is not about me or my name-- it's about and for all of us: you and me and us and we.
We're all in this together.
